The University Transition First Year (U1) is a structured first-year of undergraduate study at TWU, carefully designed for students transitioning from secondary to tertiary education. It meets the same academic standards as the regular first year of a TWU degree, meaning students:

University Transition First Year (U1)

In Partnership with Trinity Western University, Canada

The University Transition First Year (U1) is a fully accredited first year of undergraduate study offered by Trinity Western University (TWU), Canada, in partnership with Patris Schools.

Students enrolled in U1 are registered as TWU undergraduate students and complete 36 credit hours within one academic year. Upon successful completion, students progress into Year Two of their chosen undergraduate degree at TWU.

U1 is not a foundation or remedial programme; it forms part of the regular TWU degree pathway.

After successfully completing U1, students may apply to enter Year Two of a wide range of undergraduate degree programmes at Trinity Western University, subject to meeting academic progression requirements.

Programme availability and admission into specific majors are determined by TWU’s academic policies and student performance during the U1 year.

The U1 programme runs for one academic year (approximately 12 months), divided into two semesters.

Students complete a total of 36 credit hours during this period.

Tuition is calculated at $350 USD per credit hour.

With 36 credit hours, the total tuition cost for the U1 year is:

$12,600 USD

Please note that additional expenses such as accommodation, health insurance, travel, visa processing, and personal costs are separate and determined by Trinity Western University and Canadian regulations.

Financial aid and scholarship opportunities may be available through Trinity Western University.

However:

  • Students must first be admitted and enrolled.

  • Scholarships are typically merit-based.

  • Academic performance during the U1 year may strengthen eligibility for awards.

Financial assistance is assessed by TWU in accordance with its policies and available funding.

The U1 programme does not automatically guarantee scholarships.

However, strong academic performance during U1 may qualify students for scholarship consideration within Trinity Western University’s undergraduate programmes.

All scholarship awards are determined solely by TWU.

Successful completion of the U1 year allows students to progress into Year Two of an undergraduate programme at TWU.

However:

  • Students must maintain satisfactory academic performance.

  • Some competitive majors may have additional academic requirements.

Admission into specific degree pathways is subject to TWU’s academic standards and progression policies.

Students enrolled in U1 are recognised as Trinity Western University students from the beginning of the programme.

With the provision of fully equipped smart classrooms in the FAR centre in Jos, students are encouraged to come over to Jos for the exciting experience of the program. However, students all over the world can participate in the U1 program from the comfort of their homes as long as they are disciplined enough to be in class (online) and complete all the requirements to move to year 2 in Canada.
